I awoke at 5am yesterday to travel to Liverpool. The reason I was travelling to Liverpool was that my boyfriend was checking out the University and as I am also applying to two universities in Liverpool I might as well check out the shopping, music, atmosphere, restaurants and general city life.
We arrived at Liverpool Lime Street Station at around 8.45 and to us the train station was huge! As we both live in Huddersfield we're used to things in microcosms. We then came across two statues of Ken Dodd and Bessie Braddock.
In our town advertisements consist of billboards at the most but to our surprise outside the train station were advertisements on a huge screen.
We came across Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral as well, it must have been the only modern cathedral that we'd laid our eyes on, it was colossal.
A lady with a massive hat next to a protest.
Another cathedral
It took us well over half an hour to find the university which had given us an appalling map of the city (I saw no roads on there that we walked passed). We found literally every campus owned by the university bar the one that we were meant to be in.
After we found the right place I was sufficiently grumpy as I don't take kindly to having to wake up at 5am and then get lost in a city I don't know. The talk on American Studies was interesting, especially as it was held in a room that looked like a meeting room and the place looked like a London house. The lecturer giving the talk looked like an 80s throw back, he was very large and had curly hair. I had to contain my laughter, nevertheless he was an incredibly interesting guy.
After the university talk we found Liverpool's China Town which is the oldest China Town in Europe. I have been to London and Manchester's China Town. Both cities have the fancy arch but they're nothing next to Liverpool's which is huge!
We then wandered around the streets where I found some amazing vintage, hat, music and charity shops. Although what confused me was when we came across these people dressed in black suits and red ties. Some of them donned ear pieces, they looked like some kind of personnel but I had no idea who they were. Further along the street they walked passed us and there was a man stood outside a shop and he went "Ere mate, what ya doin?" it gave me and my boyfriend some laughs.
I digress, further along the street we found a vinyl shop, I have also been very partial to vinyl as I have grown up with my dad's expensive record player and hundreds of vinyl albums. I was however, shocked at the name of one vinyl in this shop 'Erotic Terrorism'
